Escape the city : Find Beauty of Chaiyaphum’s flowers blooming in August 2024!
Chaiyaphum province has given us a breath of fresh air and a magical view of pink flower fields in July – August this year, 2024.

“Siam Tulips” plants are also known as Dok Kra Chiao in Thai. Surprisingly, the name of “Tulip” that people have given meaning nothing related to Tulips at all. They are actually in a similar species of ginger, galangal or turmeric.

The flowers have pink, light purple or white color. The blooming season starts from June until August depending on weather in each year. The flowers are wild growing and the annual festival takes place only once a year.
To enjoy the lovely flowers in Chaiyaphum, we have visited these 2 lovely places;

1, Pa Hin Ngam (meaning “A beautiful stone forest”) National Park.
We arrived very late in the afternoon in Thepsatit district. After a stop for cups of iced coffee, we headed to the national park.
Since it was a weekday, the park had a few people visiting. We got a fantastic view of nature because the field was so green with some pink spots from Dok Kra Chiao and golden sky as our background.

The park is a hidden gem of central Thailand. Normally, stone forest and cliffs are the most famous attractions here. We went directly to Pa Sud Pan Din viewpoint for a spectacular panoramic mountain view before going to see the flowers. After that we went trekking around a strange-shaped stone forest. Some of them look like a radar, a hen, FIFA world cup etc.
2, Sai Thong National Park,
We stayed overnight in Thepsathit district. Early in the morning we started our trip to Saithong National Park for a beautiful morning view from the cliff walk.
We trekked (again) for an hour and took a hundred photographs. Then we had lunch at the park. I would say that Dok Kra Chiao in this park were more freshly bloomed and the park has a bigger flower field than Pa Hin Ngam.

Before finishing our trip, of course we didn’t miss buying some locally made product, Sausages, for people at home. One of the most famous foods from the north eastern part of Thailand is “MUM Chaiyaphum” which is not difficult to find. Just right next to the main road, you will see sausages hanging dry from the sun. Very cool!
If you are a wanderer who likes to explore the place off the tourist track, a trip to visit Chaiyaphum in July or August will surely give you an awe-inspiring experience.
